Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a positive note on August 28, tracking firm cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,245.50 in early trade.
The domestic market is expected to begin on a firmer footing after extending its losses for the second consecutive session on August 27. Gains in consumer durables and pharma stocks were outweighed by selling across media, metals, oil & gas and PSU banks. The indices failed to hold their initial gains and remained largely in negative territory throughout the session.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76933.59 down by -539.35 points or by -0.7 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24090.85 down by -116.9 points or by -0.48 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading on a mixed note as the initial euphoria post Nvidia Corp’s bullish sales outlook faded, while Marvell Technology Inc’s shares declined 7 per cent following earnings report. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.82 per cent and South Korea’s Kospi fell 1.14 per cent.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 settled 0.2 per cent and 0.72 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 1.57 per cent higher.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 31434.48 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 237.86 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 28576.52 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 552.92 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 2857.96 Crore and Rs. -315.06
