Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and dedicate five major development projects worth approximately Rs 3,350 crore in Ladakh on October 15, 2026, at around 12:30 PM through video conferencing. He will also address the gathering, with the projects aimed at improving connectivity, strengthening energy infrastructure, preserving cultural heritage and enhancing water security in the region.
One of the key projects is the new passenger terminal building at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, developed at a cost of Rs 640 crore. Spread across 23,800 square metres, the terminal is designed to accommodate 35 lakh passengers annually. The facility incorporates geothermal energy to improve efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint, while integrating modern amenities with elements of Ladakh's cultural heritage.
The Prime Minister will also dedicate the 298-km Nimmu–Padum–Darcha Road, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), to the nation. The road connects Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through the Zanskar Valley, providing an alternative route to Ladakh alongside the Srinagar–Leh and Manali–Leh highways. The corridor is expected to improve strategic mobility and logistics for the Armed Forces while enhancing access to healthcare, education, markets and essential services for residents of Zanskar.
To strengthen regional energy infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the 9 MW Hanu Small Hydroelectric Project and the 66 kV Double-Circuit Dah–Hanu–Khaltsi Transmission Line. These projects are expected to improve electricity supply reliability, strengthen power transmission and support the utilisation of Ladakh's hydropower potential.
In a major heritage conservation initiative, Modi will inaugurate India's first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat in Leh. The facility will focus on protecting prehistoric rock carvings depicting wildlife, human figures and symbolic representations that document the region's cultural and civilisational history. It is also expected to promote public awareness and responsible heritage tourism.
The Prime Minister will further inaugurate 40 water bodies developed across 40 villages under Project Him Sarovar, an initiative aligned with the objectives of Mission Amrit Sarovar. The project aims to address Ladakh's seasonal water shortages by conserving available water resources and improving their availability during critical agricultural periods. The initiative is expected to support irrigation, protect farmers' livelihoods and strengthen long-term water security across the region.
