RBI Issues Amendment Directions on SA-CCR Framework

Back

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday issued the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Forthcoming Instructions) Amendment Directions, 2026, revising the capital framework for counterparty credit risk under the Standardised Approach for Counterparty Credit Risk (SA-CCR).

The amendments follow stakeholder feedback on the draft directions issued in June 2026. Key changes include clarifying the scope of counterparty credit risk for banking and trading book exposures, addressing multiple margin agreements and netting sets, and providing guidance for banks acting as clearing members of SEBI-recognised stock exchanges in equity and commodity derivatives.

The revised framework also specifies the treatment of deferred option premiums, provides guidance on computing effective notional amounts for options, and introduces disclosure templates for SA-CCR.

The RBI said feedback received on the draft instructions has been examined and incorporated into the final Amendment Directions.

The revised instructions will come into effect from April 1, 2027.
